This holiday season, excitement ran high at La Posada when Jenni Rivera, called the queen of banda music, paid a personal visit to the residence. After touring the affordable housing program for single mothers and their children run by New Economics for Women, Jenni donated $10,000 and pledged her ongoing support.

Over 250 people attended the NEW Home Rescue Fair on June 27, 2009 in Panorama City, California.
The Alliance for Stabilizing our Communities organized the event to help provide local residents with the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions.
Participants were invited to bring their loan documents and other financial information to get advice in English and Spanish from industry experts.
NEW will be following up with attendees.

As the Los Angeles based member of a national consortium, New Economics for Women (NEW) will be receiving HUD funds to purchase, repair and sell one hundred (100) foreclosed properties in the San Fernando Valley…The Neighborhood Stabilization Funding will help make dreams come true for many families in San Fernando Valley,” commented NEW Executive Director Maggie Cervantes.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation recently recognized NEW along with the Chrysalis Center, Inner-City Arts and Para Los Niños as its 2008 Neighborhood Builders. The award comes with $200,000 in unrestricted grant funding as well as sponsorship of the executive director and an emerging leader from the organization to participate in a leadership development program sponsored by Bank of America for nonprofit leaders across the country and London.

On November 16, 2007, the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies presented the 2007 HOME Excellence Award to The Los Angeles Housing Department for its role in financing New Economics for Women's Tierra Del Sol project. This is the third recent award for Tierra del Sol, following the Charles L. Edison Tax Credit award and recognition as Best Family Development by Affordable Housing Finance Magazine.


Tierra del Sol was named among the winners in the 12th annual Charles I. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards. These national awards are presented to the most outstanding Low Income Housing Tax Credit properties in four categories Metropolitan/Urban, Rural, Senior and Special Needs properties. Tierra del Sol was the winner in the Metropolitan/Urban category.
