Moving out of the Garage- Juan Tobarez
Most of Juan Tobarez’ hard earned money was going to rent --yet he lived very modestly in a garage with his mother and brother. After putting up with cramped conditions for over ten years, Juan had had enough and was determined to move his family. But could he afford to buy a home of his own?
Juan’s cousin referred him to New Economics for Women (NEW) where Juan was assigned to work with NEW Homeownership Counselor Jorge Leiva. Jorge encouraged Juan and helped him overcome his concerns, patiently explaining to him every step of the home buying process. Well-prepared with the right information, Juan was able to make educated choices about home loans and first-time homebuyer programs. Jorge assisted Juan from the start of the process all the way through the close of escrow. And of course, he was there on the happy day Juan received the keys to his new home.
Juan is now the proud owner of a beautifully updated, three-bedroom home in Arleta, California. His mother was particularly delighted with details such as the newly installed appliances and th
e sparkling clean appearance of the house. Throughout his participation in the NEW CASA program, Juan worked hard, always keeping his goal in sight. His success is an inspiration to others who dream about owning their own home.
