NEW is probably most well-known for providing safe and affordable housing. When we develop housing, we imagine an environment where people are empowered to realize their dreams and aspirations. Then we set out to create places where people feel welcome, safe and secure and can experience a sense of abundance and success.
Meeting Families’ Needs through Design
Before NEW opened its first affordable housing community, Casa Loma, we asked prospective residents what they wanted in their apartment. Then we built with the needs of our families in mind. In this simple way, we pioneered the model of family needs-centered design.Vista Monterey, for example, was specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors. That’s why the immediate proximity of its one bedroom apartments to a public transportation hub and a local grocery store are key. Tierra del Sol, was designed for families, ranging from single parent to multi-generational households. Consequently, the apartment building features units ranging from one to five-bedrooms and is located adjacent to a charter school and a community center.
600 Apartment Units and Counting
Over the past 25 years, NEW has gradually developed over 600 units of affordable apartments in unique housing communities throughout Los Angeles, homes that meet the needs of over 1,500 men, women and children.

If you are interested in renting a NEW apartment, please pick up a rental application from the manager of the building where you want to rent. For legal reasons, the application must be in English and the completed application must be dropped off in person. Every application is screened and applicants are notified if they are accepted. If accepted, the applicant is put on the waiting list. The average waiting period is 6 months to a year.
