About Us

In 1984, New Economics for Women's founders, successful Latinas and community leaders who knew firsthand the struggles of growing up poor, shared a powerful, fundamental belief - that working parents are self-motivated and responsible.

At NEW we have a mission - to create economic and educational opportunities for single parents, families and disinvested communities as a pathway for dreams to come true. We carry out our mission by:

•    Building and operating quality affordable housing designed by single parents;
•    Helping low-income families build financial assets and transform their ability to be successful; and
•    Helping communities transform by developing strategies and resources to eliminate poverty.

NEW Board and Staff
Our Board and Staff  implement a holistic approach to all we do.  We are guided by a set of core values based on integrity, excellence, innovation and sustainability.

NEW's Asset Building Model
We enable families to build assets through a process of Whole Family Transformation.   As families learn about what it takes to get beyond living from paycheck to paycheck, both parents and children engage in an intensive process that enables them to create and work toward achieving shared financial and social goals.
